Traditionally, a large-scale remodeling project has involved two separate professions: Architecture and Construction. Once you made the decision to remodel your home, you would first find a designer who was able to draw up the plans and determine the specifications for your remodel. Armed with these drawings, you then sought out a contractor who could transform the plans into a structure, after receiving estimates and interviewing several other contractors.
With the old way, the homeowner brought the designer and contractor together, and was left to solve any disagreements or problems that arose. And there could be many of these. First, the drawings had to be within your budget (as estimated by the contractor), and then they had to be buildable by your chosen contractor. If there were problems in the design, budget, or construction, it was up to you to seek a remedy and perhaps even pay for them. In the real world, the old way could easily become a frustrating, even daunting task.
The Design/Build concept is much different. It brings designers and contractors together on one team, with one project manager, and puts your wishes first. This means that you work with the same team from start to finish on your remodel project. This seamless process solves the typical problems that often arise from a traditional remodeling approach by literally closing the gap between the designer and contractor. The role that you play as a Homeowner on our team is as the decision-maker, rather than the mediator.
